SCULPTURE
Sculpture. Below you will see examples of finished sculptures and the pieces I am currently working on. They can be cast in resin or bronze.
Puck (Robin Good Fellow). This piece was inspired by the mischievous character in Shakespeare’s A Mid-Summer Nights Dream. I have always loved Shakespeare, and there is no better character than Puck and his unconditional love of Oberon. I tried to capture a little bit of that magic and wildness in this portrait. Available.
Portrait of Ruth. This piece was all about movement and expression. I wanted to show wisdom emanating from her eyes. The model had such a soulful quality to the way she looked that achieving that in clay was my top priority. I exaggerated the waves in her hair to give the piece balance and movement.
The Coyote. Because my Grate Grandfather was Cherokee, I often look to and am inspired by the mythologies and beliefs of his people. In Cherokee culture, the coyote holds profound symbolic and spiritual significance, embodying a complex duality that reflects the intricate balance of life. Known as the "First Medicine," the coyote is revered as a teacher and trickster, imparting crucial lessons through its clever and resourceful nature. Cherokee mythology depicts the coyote as a mediator between the earthly and spiritual realms, possessing the ability to navigate between worlds. Its cunning and adaptability are seen as valuable traits, guiding the Cherokee people to navigate the challenges of life with resilience and wisdom. Moreover, the coyote is often associated with transformation and change, emphasizing the cyclical nature of existence. The Cherokee view the coyote as a spiritual guide, urging individuals to embrace both the light and dark aspects of their journey, mirroring the intricate dance of nature's cycles. This spiritual connection underscores the profound respect the Cherokee have for the coyote, recognizing it not only as a creature of the land but as a wise and influential presence in the spiritual tapestry of their cultural heritage.
Works in Progress. These are three of the sculptures that I am currently working on in my studio. To the right Is a piece about active vs. passive decision making, inspired by the tarot card The Two of Swords. In the middle is my take on Leda and the Swan, A piece that explores the impact a dramatic event can have on the psyche for years after the event occurred. Lastly, On the right is a study I am making of a Coyote.
